Hexup for Nov 22 – Rocks in More Than One Sense

It’s been a long week, mostly occupied by Desert Bus for Hope. Still, other cool things (and some self-plugs)!

Congratulations to Desert Bus

Desert Bus for Hope bussed for over 150 hours and raised over $600,000 for Child’s Play, a charity that supports children’s hospitals around the world. It is a shatteringly awesome thing, and they put a ton of work into it. I watched a lot of it, and laughed and cried with the chat. In the off season, you can find most of them at Loading Ready Run, a hilarious Canadian comedy troupe.

Underground Rocks

It’s not all comedy though, some science got done, as geologists uncovered a hidden canyon in south Tibet. The intriguing part about it is that it might overturn most conventional theories on how the Himalayas, well, became the Himalayas we know and love, huge steep mountains climbed mostly by rich people accompanied by troops of poor people. the shape of the canyon goes back millions of years, and you can read more about it at Science Daily.

Cook Your Things

After a grocery incident this week, I got some use out of Supercook.com. Enter a set of ingredients and it’ll index recipes that you can make with it. It’s great for using up those last few bits of things, or when you’ve got nothing but chicken and condiments in your fridge. It indexes recipes from a lot of different cooking sites, and if I can find a way to get keto-friendly settings on it, it’s going to be my new go to for experimental foodcrafting.

Hank Green on Embarassment

Hank talks about how to be embarrassed, and how not to be. Being wrong can be embarrassing a lot (the urge to double down is strong in me), but he lays out one of those awkward wrong moments really well. It is good times.
