Bootleg Movie Posters

Terminator 2 Poster from GhanaApparently while movies go around the world, movie posters don’t always do that. A Tale of Perseverance

How fast do you take to new technology? We’re no luddites here, we know that you can’t fight the future, but we’ve got nothing on these kids. The One Laptop Per Child program dropped off a box of Motorola tablets in an Ethiopian village, and in just five short months a bunch of kids who had never seen the English language were digging around in the Android OS. Maybe the most important feeling is curiosity after all. Read the full story on dvice.com.

The Story of the Tin Can

Speaking of stories, the BBC presents the story of the tin can, and how it almost wasn’t. It’s incredible to see how even the simplest things that we take utterly for granted can have a complex and intriguing history. It transforms sugar into fuel of the right type for modern motors. “Rather than making a replacement fuel like some biofuels, we have made a substitute fossil fuel,” said Prof. John Love. It still takes 100 litres of bacteria to produce 1 teaspoon of fuel, but it’s an interesting attempt at addressing a serious problem. Read the whole article on the BBC.

And that’s all we’ve got for you this week. Come back Wednesday and Friday for new posts, and Saturday for our next Hexup. Also, since May is charity month here at Concept Crucible, head over to Headshots from the Heart and give it a look. We’re playing videogames to raise money for children’s hospitals, and it’s going to be glorious.
